The Younger Generation
As Mutazione nears release, we wanted to give you a chance to get to know some of the delightful characters you’ll meet! Not from the perspective of the developers, since on the publishing side we didn’t create these characters or plot out this story. But we fell in love with Mutazione nonetheless and want to share a bit about why. Over the next few weeks, we’ll cover everyone in the community, but for now we’ll start with the youngest generation! We want to introduce you to Kai, the curious teenager; Tung, the sweetheart giant; Miu, the adventurous hunter; and Bopek, fishing foundling!
Kai
Though she’s journeying to Mutazione for the first time, Kai’s family has a long history in the community and as she joins the community she’s not quite prepared for how much gossip and intrigue she’s going to be greeted with! Kind and curious (depending on how you play her), Kai is the player character, with Kai you’ll explore the wilderness, meet the residents and plant musical gardens! Kai sets out to help her ill grandfather but arrives to discover that he has other much more mysterious plans for her…
Tung
Like a lot of folks that just turned eighteen, Tung’s feeling like he might have outgrown the community. He has a talent for building and fixing things, but can’t see it, and believes he’s bad at everything. He spends a lot of his evenings watching soap operas from the mainland, his favourite is Tre Fontane, the romantic tales of which he dreams about replicating in his own life. As he works on rebuilding an old boat his mother (Claire) and grandmother (Mori) worry he might follow in the steps of his absentee father, who used to run the community’s only ferry service. Tung is a romantic, who wishes he were brave enough to run away.
Miu
Miu, the main hunter of the community, provides the meat for the weekly barbecue, as well as supplying Mori’s Stirfry. She has a quiet, black sense of humor, and a dark past which Kai can take the time to get to know more about.. Miu, Tung and Spike play in a band and when she’s not out in the wilderness, she can be found in her small home above Kai’s Grandfather’s place, listening to loud music, and butchering meat. Metal!
Bopek
The youngest member of Mutazione’s community, at least until Ailin’s baby is born, Bopek is a twelve-year-old cared for by the community as a whole. He tries his very best to be helpful, but can feel overwhelmed because he sometimes has a hard time understanding people. He never lets that get him down, though! He loves to fish and sing, weaves baskets with Claire, and hangs out with his pal Jell-A. His favourite thing in the world is hot sauce – unfortunately it tends to make him faint… that doesn’t stop him ‘helping’ Spike with the BBQ seasoning though. After all, what isn’t better with more hot sauce?
